March 7th marked the day Eastwood third grade students loaded up and headed out west!  The STEM challenge had students using their knowledge about simple machines, force, and Missouri’s history including The Oregon Trail.  Students were tasked with designing and creating a Conestoga Wagon using 2 straws, 10 toothpicks, 2 pipe cleaners, a chunk of cardboard, a large piece of paper, and some masking tape.  The wagon had to be able to withstand the weight of a Little Hug Fruit Barrel.  The students decided that the most challenging part of the task was creating wheels that would spin freely on the axel, then finding a way to attach the wheels and axel to the wagon.
