A warm welcome to the 2007-2008 school year! We are delighted that you have chosen to visit
Marshall Elementary Schools. As you may know, each of our elementary schools is a grade level attendance center.
We believe in setting high expectations and providing children with a nurturing, safe, and supportive learning environment.
Benton Elementary School offers Reading Recovery, Title One Reading, ESL, Learning Disabilities, Speech, OT/PT,
and Gifted services for those individuals needing that extra support and challenge. Mr. John Stewart is our Licensed
Professional Counselor. He offers individual, small and large group counseling. The success of our school community
depends on the collaboration, commitment, and involvement of parents, students, teachers, and community members.
We welcome your involvement as parents and encourage you to become active in our PTO and Parent Advisory
Committee and help shape your child’s school community.

Our school discipline is based on the Ozanam B.I.S.T. model. “We accept all children where they are and want
them to have a safe learning environment. It is O.K. for a child to have a problem, but it is not O.K. for the child
to stay stuck there. We will help the child to own responsibility for the problem, and to develop a plan to take
responsibility for his/her actions and solve the problem.” When walking through our hallways you will observe lots
of positive interactions. You will hear and see:
Teachers and staff members smiling and talking one-on-one with students in a calm, caring manner.
Class meetings where shared decision-making takes place.
Teachers offering more choices in the classroom.
Students thinking and writing about their choices in a quiet area.
Teachers forming partnerships with parents.
Students with more confidence and increased self-esteem.
