Jay has been serving on the Marshall School Board since April, 2001.
He is a Marshall High School graduate (1979). He is also a graduate
of Central Missouri State University in 1983 with BS degrees in
Political Science and Criminal Justice Administration; and
Graduated from University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 1987 with
Juris Doctor degree.
Bringing respect and trust back to the School Board is a goal of Jay's,
as well as providing our students with the best learning environment possible
through remodeling and renovating our school buildings and by hiring outstanding
teachers and staff and, last but not least, to retain the outstanding teachers in
our District.
Jay's a member of the First Christian Church (Member/Board Chair), Marshall Senior
Center, Marshall Lighthouse, Marshall Soccer League, Marshall Booster Club, YMCA
(Basketball Coach), Marshall Baseball League (coach), Missouri Bar, Missouri Assoc.
of Trial Attorneys, PTO (wife) and Beta Sigma Phi (wife). Jay is currently employed
at the Barton Law Firm and is the Assistant Prosecuting Attorney of Saline County, MO.
Jay's wife, Debi, is also a 1979 graduate of Marshall High School. They started dating
when they were juniors and have now been married for 21 years. They moved
back to Marshall from Blue Springs four years ago. They have a son, who
is a senior at MHS, and a daughter, who is in the 5th grade. They also have
a new black Lab puppy, Camo, and two cats, Kallee and Smudge.
"I grew up in Marshall and left when I went to college. After spending many years
in Kansas City, my wife and I decided that we wanted to raise our children in the
same place where we grew up and were educated. I love to ride bicycles, particularly
on the KATY Trail and we enjoy being involved in our community."
