INCLEMENT WEATHER PREPARATION
Winter season is rapidly
approaching and with it the increased possibility of adverse weather. Administrators and staff have been preparing
for severe weather, and making plans for notifying students, parents and staff
members in the event the decision is made to cancel classes due to poor weather
conditions.
The decision whether or not
to have school when conditions are less than favorable is always a difficult
one. Weather patterns are very
unpredictable, and deciding to not have school when the weather is bad, or to
go ahead and have school generally elicits a wide variety of reactions and
opinions. Rest assured that any
decisions of this nature are made with the safety of our children at heart.
The process for determining
whether or not to cancel classes will generally begin at 4:00 a.m. with administrators testing various roads around Marshall. At
approximately 5:00
a.m. administrators will meet
to discuss the conditions, and consult with the weather service to further
assess the conditions. A decision to
cancel school in the morning will be made prior to 6:00 a.m.
If it is obvious the night
before that conditions will not be conducive to having school the next morning,
announcements may be made the evening prior to the cancellation of classes. In
addition, should the weather conditions deteriorate on a day we are in session,
and it becomes necessary to dismiss early, the decision will be made prior to 10:30 a.m. and early dismissal will occur at 12:30 p.m. for all buildings.
In any event, parents are asked to not
contact the school to inquire about school closings. Any decisions of this nature will be promptly
advertised on the following media sources:
KMMO Radio (FM 102.9 or AM 1300) KCTV (Channel 5)
KMZU Radio (FM 100.7) KOMU-TV
(Channel 8)
Thank you for your
cooperation in this matter. Hopefully
this will be a mild winter, making these preparations unnecessary. However, if we do have poor weather, our goal
is to be as prepared as possible.
Respectfully Yours,
