The following courses will be offered during the school year at SCHS. Our key role is to
provide each student a quality education in the core curriculum subjects. Students earn course
credits that are applied toward their graduation requirements. Diplomas are awarded by their sending schools.
Science
Physical Science -- Study of scientific method of reasoning, properties of matter, acceleration and force and motion.
Earth Science -- Study of minerals, rocks, views of earth and its history, atmosphere, volcanoes, and earth quakes.
Biology -- Study of life systems, cardiovascular,
digestive, lymphatic, nervous, reproductive, respiratory and skeletal systems.
Social Studies
American History – Study of America's history from the 1880's to the present time. Gaining knowledge of
events that shaped America.
World History -- Study of the World's history from ancient Mesopotamia up to present time.
Geography -- Study of the all seven continents of the world using the five themes of geography.
Government -- Students should learn the governing process of Federal, State and Local governments.
Students should use this knowledge to work in the democratic process.
Business Mathematics
A course building on fundamental math skills to explore concepts of personal finance and small business
operation. Includes topics of gross and net income, record keeping, budgeting, banking, insurance, credit
and auto and housing expense.
Integrated Mathematics
A comprehensive course providing a balance of activities, practice and real world problem solving,
designed to implement the high school curriculum by integrating standards for algebra, geometry, measurement,
probability, and statistics, while reinforcing and extending prior knowledge.
English
English I -- Basic Grammar skills with application for career selections. ex. resumes, applications and
interviews.
English II -- Study of American Literature: From 1600's to today. Students produce a child's story book, and poetry.
English III -- Study of Elements of Literature: i.e. short stories, drama and novels. Students produce a play.
Journalism -- Elective Class or Core Class. Students produce a monthly newspaper, video yearbook and a printed yearbook.
