We are delighted that you have chosen to visit Marshall Elementary Schools. As you may know, each of our Elementary
Schools is a grade level Attendance Center. We also have three sections of kindergarten at Southeast Elementary.
Southeast School is a Second Grade Attendance Center. This year we have the following classes:
- 2nd - - - - - - - - 8 sections of regular education
- K - - - - - - - - - 2 sections of regular education
Our class size in second grade averages 23 students.
In Kindergarten, our class size averages 22 students.
We offer Title One Reading (K & 2nd Grade), ESL, Learning Disabilities, Speech, and OT/PT.
Mr. John Stewart is our Licensed Professional Counselor. He offers individual, small and large group counseling.
Our focus at Southeast School has been on Comprehensive Literacy. Our staff has been trained in Balanced Literacy through the Missouri
Reading Initiative. Over the past few years, we have developed extensive classroom libraries, a take-home book program and a leveled-book room for the school.
Our school discipline is based on the Ozanam B.I.S.T. model. "We accept all children where they are and want them to have a safe learning environment. It is O.K. for a child to have a problem, but it is not O.K.for the child to stay stuck there. We will
help the child to own responsibility for the problem, and to develop a plan to take responsibility for his/her actions and solve the problem."
Some of the things you will hear when in our school:
- Teacher and staff members smiling and talking one-on-one with students in a calm, caring manner - listening and trying to get beneath the hurt to the heart of each student.
- Class meetings where shared decision-making takes place.
- Teachers offering more choices in the classroom.
- Students thinking and writing about their choices in a quiet area (using a think sheet)
- Teachers and students developing plans together.
- Teachers forming partnerships with parents.
- Students with more confidence and increased self-esteem.
We at Southeast School are committed to providing an educational program and environment that will meet individual student academic, social and emotional needs. All students are encouraged to reach their potential.
