In Kindergarten, our class size averages 23 students.
We offer Schoolwide Title One Reading (K & 2nd Grade), ESL, Learning Disabilities, Speech, and OT/PT.

Improving student achievement continues to be our primary focus. We are very excited about implementing Saxon Math for our students in grades K-8. It is the Saxon philosophy that math instruction should build on prior learning. In Saxon, new learning is presented in increments, with time provided between increments for practice. At the primary level, the program offers a complete kit with a balanced approach using manipulatives and guided instruction. It is our goal to improve student achievement in the area of mathematics using a program that is common for grades K-8. Hopefully, we will get the results we are aiming for. With our staff’s commitment and dedication, we will continue to strive to increase student achievement in all of the programs and practices that have been put into place at Southeast again this year. We will continue using AIMSweb, Six Trait Writing, Leveled Literacy Intervention, common planning time, and building wide intervention time. We are excited about the opportunities that we have ahead of us and believe that we will do what is best for our students to be successful
Our school discipline is based on the Ozanam B.I.S.T. model. "We accept all children where they are and want them to have a safe learning environment. It is O.K. for a child to have a problem, but it is not O.K.for the child to stay stuck there. We will help the child to own responsibility for the problem, and to develop a plan to take responsibility for his/her actions and solve the problem."
Some of the things you will hear when in our school:
- Teacher and staff members smiling and talking one-on-one with students in a calm, caring manner - listening and trying to get beneath the hurt to the heart of each student.
- Class meetings where shared decision-making takes place.
- Teachers offering more choices in the classroom.
- Students thinking and writing about their choices in a quiet area (using a think sheet)
- Teachers and students developing plans together.
- Teachers forming partnerships with parents.
- Students with more confidence and increased self-esteem.
We at Southeast School are committed to providing an educational program and environment that will meet individual student academic, social and emotional needs. All students are encouraged to reach their potential.
