MATH

We just finished the first quarter assessment. It gave us some good practice for the MAP test. It was good to share this and other accomplishments of your children with you at parent conferences. THANK YOU for coming to visit with me about your child's successes. Our classroom had 100% attendance!

Unit 2 includes the following titles:

Mighty Jackie
My Diary From Here to There
Stealing Beauty
Ben Franklin
Dear Mr. Winston

Our next unit has begun. Arrays and Shares is all about the concept of multiplication. We will be learning the multiplication facts through twelve, exploring the patterns of multiplication, making connections between multiplication and division, and problem solving.

We have made flashcards to work with every day at school and will be taking a multiplication speed test (Multiplication Mania) almost every day. Working at home for 10-15 minutes each night on memorization of facts will make a big difference for your child's success with this unit.

There are several math websites on our classroom webpage that will help as well.

SOCIAL STUDIES & SCIENCE

SALUTE TO VETERANS

With Election Day just around the corner, Mrs. Kraus's Social Studies classes have been studying how government affects us. Our focus has been on the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, how a bill becomes a law and we will have a mock election on November 4th. Many students have been surprised to learn that even as young fourth graders, the government has a lot of importance in their daily lives.

Mrs. O'Neal's science classes have been learning about the scientific process and the methods that scientists use for experiments.

A Salute to Veteran's will be presented by the Northwest fourth graders on Thursday,
November 13, 2008 at
Bueker Middle School, 7:00 p.m.

All students should wear dark pants or nice blue jeans. All members of Mrs. Kraus's class should wear red t-shirts.

Remember to spread the word to your neighbors and friends. Your children have worked hard to prepare for this presentation. It is one small way for us to say "thank you" for the freedoms we enjoy.
