George Washington
our nation’s first President and Father of our Country

George Washington, (1732-1799), holds a place in our American history as the "Father of our Country.”  He helped our newly formed nation from the very beginning by:

o      commanding the Continental Army fighting against the British;

o      presiding over the gathering of our nation’s leaders who wrote our Constitution;

o      serving as our first president of the United States.

He was very popular and well liked.  Every year since the Revolutionary War the United States has celebrated his birthday.
