Journalism
Newspaper: In this writing-intensive
course, students learn to develop interview questions and techniques,
research news stories, write news, features and sports stories
as well as editorials. They publish the Marsaline, a tabloid newspaper,
every three weeks. This course counts as an English credit.
Yearbook: In this elective course,
students are responsible for financing and creating the Noctua,
the school's yearbook. They learn magazine-style layout and digital
photography as well as InDesign, a desktop publishing software. |

II
This course is a study of literature,
writing, grammar and film. Prerequisite for the class is English
I. Units include short stories, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar,
To Kill a Mockingbird, and the film unit. Students will
be assigned quarterly book reports and will write several longer
essays. |

III
This course is a study of literature,
writing and grammar. Prerequisites for the class are English I
and English II. Units of study are in chronological order and
include Puritanism, Revolutionary War-era, Romanticism, Realism,
Civil War-era and Modernism. |
Literature:
Myth to Modern
This course is an English elective
that examines mythology from the Greeks and Romans to modern times.
Units of study also include epic literature, the legend of King
Arthur, tall tales, world mythology and the hero's journey. The
course counts as a fourth English credit and may be taken by juniors
and seniors. |
