November News

Ms. Romey’s Class

Greetings Parents!

November is here, and it looks to be a very busy month! We have school programs, in-school activities, as well as new units of study. Make sure to check our calendar link for upcoming events!

In our classroom, we are working hard on many skills. Math-wise, we just finished up our unit on algebra, and we are now working on our multiplication skills. My students need to be practicing their facts each night at home. They won't memorize them without constant practice. We will have our ice cream party in January for those who have mastered their facts through 12. Keep working! Along with multiplication, we are also working on our problem solving skills.

In reading we are working on new skills each week. This coming week we will be focusing on finding the problem-solution in a story, inferencing, and facts/opinions. Book reports/reading logs are due at the end of each month. I only receive about 1/4 of these each month. Please help by encouraging reading each week, and then filling out the reading logs, and working on book reports.

Everyone is enjoying our current science unit! We started out with soil, then learned about erosion/weathering. We will now focus on fossils and landforms. Once we have finished this unit, we will go into the Scientific Process.

In language, we have finished up nouns and are now working on verbs. We will focus on linking and helping verbs the next few weeks.

I am wanting to do a fun Thanksgiving project with my class. I'm needing each child to bring to school one small ziploc bag filled with either rice or beans. This will be used to "weight down" our special project. We need to have this to school by next Monday, November 17th.

Have a great day!

Ms. Romey
