Dear almost-5th grade students,

I hope you've had a great summer playing, spending time with your family and friends, and just maybe, squeezing in a little bit of time to read and brush up on those multiplication facts. If you haven't, it's definitely not too late. You wouldn't believe what a difference it can make. I'm really excited about this year. I get to concentrate on my favorites, Science and Math, and work with your Reading and Communication Arts teacher, Ms. Reiff. We're going to do some pretty cool things for Social Studies, too. Did you take any interesting trips this summer? We'd love to share pictures of places you've visited!

Here are some things you and your parents might need to know:

  • Registration is August 10 and 11at the High School. School pictures may be taken at that time. Registration fee is usually $10.
  • Open House is usually the Thursday before school starts, but I haven't heard the official date yet. That would be August 18 from 5:30 - 7:00. You may bring your supplies with you if you'd like.
  • On the first day of school, report to the gymnasium through the front north end doors. Signs or friendly, smiling people will help you find where to go from there.
  • We collect pop tabs and Campbell Soup labels. Bring them in any time.
  • We participate in the Missouri State Reading Circle Program. Requirements for 5th grade are 13 fiction books and 7 non-fiction books.
  • Please discuss what you'll do when school gets out. If you're being picked up, decide on a place to meet. If you're riding a bus, we'll help you find it, but it's sure helpful if you have your bus pass!

I'd LOVE to hear from you! Please email me at rsolomon@marshallschools.com. The link for that is on my homepage to make it easy. If you have questions, that's a great way to get them answered as you come up with them. It's also a great way for your parents and I to keep in touch throughout the year. I'll be seeing you soon!

Sincerely, Ronna Solomon
