In an effort to address the alarming increase in the number of overweight children in America, Congress
enacted Section 204 of Public Law 108-265 in 2004. This law requires all school districts that participate
in the National School Lunch and/or National School Breakfast Programs establish a local wellness policy by
the beginning of the 2006-2007 school year.
This site is intended to help parents, students and educators alike to understand the wellness policy of the
Marshall Public Schools. The site provided information on the mandates of the law, why the law is needed and
introduces you to the members of the committee.

The Wellness Committee would also like to announce that the Third Annual Wellness Run will be held on Saturday, April 17th. The Wellness Committee and the Salt Fork YMCA have teamed together for a 2 mile fun run or walk for the middle school through high school students and adults. The elementary aged students will run or walk a ¼ mile or ½ mile. Adult supervision is required for runners in grades K-6. All runners will receive a participation ribbon. After the Wellness Runs, there will be lots of fun and free activities to participate in at the Salt Fork YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day. All races will begin at the YMCA. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. and the race will begin at 9:00 a.m. Each participant is asked to bring two canned goods to be donated to the Marshall food pantry. Flyers and waiver forms will be sent out to each school in early April. If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Mc Comas (mccomas[at]saltforkymca[dot]org) or Kelly Callanan (kcallanan[at]marshallschools[dot]com).
