Saline County Career Center DECA chapter competes at State competition:

Three teams of Saline County Career Center DECA students reaped the rewards of their year-long class projects March 12-14.

At the Missouri DECA State Career Development Conference, 9 SCCC students qualified to present their projects at the next level, DECA's International Career Development Conference, April 25-30, in Anaheim, California.

At the State conference, students presented projects they began working on at the beginning of the school year and were evaluated by a judging panel consisting of more than 100 business and industry professionals. The team of Molly Angelhow, Taylor Bellamy, and Jani Tobin placed second with their Public Relations Project, "Proud to be an Owl," The team of Wendy Cortes, Selena Serrano and Clara Rouk placed second with their Community Service Project, "Hope for the Hungry. Zach Baker, Mariana Lopez, and Katie Miles placed fourth with their Creative Marketing Project, "Books on Wheels."

There were 16 chapter members that were recognized and placed in the top eight: Olivia Quint, Logan Evans, Rileigh Massey, Anna Hartley, Alli Griffitt, Lauren Adcock, Tiara Tindell along with those who placed at ICDC.

Wendy Cortes was recognized on stage for her excellence in leadership throughout this year.

Those wishing to contribute to the group's trip to Anaheim trip can do so at a DECA Showcase and dinner at the Marshall High School Commons Wednesday, March 29, at 5:30 p.m. The ICDC qualifiers will present their work at the event. All proceeds from the event will got to finance their competition expenses. Tickets are $10 each and can be requested by contacting the SCCC office at 660-886-6958.
