Marshall Public Schools is aware of speech by some employees that has caused concern in connection with the recent political assassination. While we cannot discuss specifics related to individuals, these concerns are being addressed carefully and in consultation with legal guidance.

MPS respects the First Amendment rights of staff and students, but any speech that could incite violence or undermine confidence in our ability to educate all students will not be tolerated. Staff are reminded to pause and consider their activities—inside and outside of school—and ensure students feel safe and supported as they develop independent thinking and conclusions. Teachers must remain neutral when presenting issues in the classroom and avoid representing personal opinions as those of the District.

Violence—or speech that incites violence—from any political side, now or in the future, has no place in our schools. We hope our staff can model respect, kindness, and understanding despite differences, setting an example for students, the community, and hopefully a kinder more unified future. Marshall Public Schools remains proud of our teachers and committed to providing a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for every student.
